At Twenty4 Fire & Security, we’re proud to be supporting this year’s Fire Door Safety Week, a national campaign designed to raise awareness of the importance of properly installed and maintained fire doors.

Fire doors play a crucial role in protecting lives and property. They contain fire, stop the spread of deadly smoke and provide vital time for people to escape safely. However, as Rhiannon Lewis, who heads up our Fire Door Division, explains:

“Poorly fitted fire doors kill. We see it day in, day out – doors that haven’t been installed correctly, maintained properly, or simply overlooked. Fire Door Safety Week is about highlighting these dangers and helping businesses understand their legal and moral responsibilities.”

The Legal Responsibility

Under Article 17 of the Fire Safety Order, it is a legal requirement for fire doors to be inspected regularly – at least every six months. This is especially important for new buildings and busy premises where doors see heavy use. Failing to comply can lead to prosecution, fines, or even closure of a building.

As Rhiannon adds:

“It’s not just about ticking a compliance box. Fire doors are lifesaving equipment, and inspections are essential to make sure they’re fit for purpose.”

How Twenty4 Can Help

Our dedicated fire safety engineers provide:

  • Fire Door Inspections – a detailed check of certification, gaps, seals, hinges and closing mechanisms.

  • Fire Door Installation – ensuring every component is fitted to the highest standard.

  • Maintenance Services – keeping doors compliant and functional all year round.

  • Fire Door Retainers – allowing fire doors to remain open during daily use but automatically closing in the event of fire, limiting damage and protecting escape routes.

We also provide a simple 5-step fire door check that anyone can carry out to spot the most common problems, from checking the certification plug to ensuring the door closes properly into its frame.

Our Commitment

Supporting Fire Door Safety Week reinforces our mission to keep South Wales businesses and communities safe.

“Regular inspections and proper maintenance give business owners total peace of mind,” says Rhiannon. “It means you know your doors will perform when it matters most.”
